Children are expected to “get over” unpleasant events such as the scrape from the bike wreck or the name-calling bout at the birthday party. The loss of a loved one isn't something any child should be expected to get over without loving empathy and a wise, listening ear.
If your child is dealing with loss, whether it’s the death of a beloved family member or the family turtle, you need to understand that you what your child needs at times such as this.
